Staying Positive During Uncertain Times

Isaiah 41:10 – Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

During these uncertain times in our country dealing with COVID-19 and the effects it has on our well-being such as having to social distance, quarantine, wear protection, work from home and/or be laid off work, delay elective surgeries, postpone weddings, not attend church, stores/restaurants/gyms/hair salons, etc. all closed – it is taking a toll on all of us.

Though it has definitely forced us to slow down in this very demanding world which means spending more time with family, making overdue phone calls, working on home improvements, organizing projects we’ve procrastinated on, making social distance visits, walking the dog, enjoying home-cooked meals, learning a new talent, finishing a book, catching up on Netflix, studying the Bible, working in the yard, finding creative ways to see each other while being socially distant, spring cleaning, attending online church services and just taking time to relax.

How can we stay positive during these times?

  1. Take a break from the news.  Stay informed of what is happening locally and globally.  Stay educated and prepared but create a healthy balance.
  2. Keep a “gratefulness” journal; include your home, health, family, friends, your ability to put food on the table, etc.
  3. Start your day with a positivity routine – prayers and/or meditation.
  4. Relax your body.  Be mindful of your muscles if you’re frowning, tensing up your jaw or shoulders; breathe and relax.  Try to get in a habit of doing quick body checks every day.
  5. Exercise even if for a short time.  Besides the physical benefits, exercising releases endorphins in your body which triggers feelings of positivity.
  6. Incorporate humor or laughter into your day.
  7. Know when to walk away from stressful conversations/situations.

BLC will continue to provide quality care to our seniors and do our absolute best to protect your loved ones while in our care. We appreciate family and friends who are working with us and being patient and understanding.  We will get through this together.
