BLC’s Spiritual Care Program

BLC believes that spiritual care is Compassionate, Attentive, Respectful, Engaging care. These four core components of our Spiritual Care Program are integrated into everything our Chaplains do. We have been a faith-based senior adult community since our founding which makes us distinct from other communities because our faith directs our overall vision – Make Someone’s Life Better.

Our Chaplains are “Ecumenical” which means they care for any and all traditions and faith groups from all walks of life.  As a member of the clinical team, our Chaplains use their many years of education and ministry experience to be engaging, uplifting and compassionate in their efforts to combat loneliness, fear, and grief. Entering into a senior adult community can be stressful and yet when you care for the whole person; body, mind, and spirit we see seniors find purpose and joy.

Chaplain Ray Coates, Director of Pastoral Care has been in ministry for nearly 30 years and has discovered that some people have religious needs but All people have spiritual needs.  Chaplain Jim Jackson at The Seasons@Alexandria and Chaplain Mike Smith at The Village@Erlanger helps seniors answer what the “big” questions of life. They include: Why is this happening to me? How do I feel about the changes in my life? What gives me comfort and hope? As we sit down with seniors and listen more than talk, empathize more than problem solve, pray more than complain, we journey together hand in hand experiencing the presence of God and the power of forgiveness, grace, and mercy.

Our chaplains lead inspirational worship services that are filled with old-time favorite gospel singing, prayer, scripture reading, Communion and biblical preaching. We have a weekly Catholic Mass where we partner with local Catholic churches and Eucharistic ministers who share communion and Sunday worship services led by various local church denominations.  We help Religious leaders like pastors, Priests, and Rabbis’ to connect with their parishioners because we recognize seniors miss their home churches. Our faith tradition is Baptist and our Christian heritage is ground in our belief in Jesus Christ, extending our hands of love and care to all.
