You are considered a caregiver if you routinely offer supervision and assistance to an individual who is elderly, disabled, experiencing terminal illness or struggling with Alzheimer’s or another form of Dementia. Providing care for a loved one is exhausting and constant which takes a toll on a caregiver’s health. A top responsibility for caretakers should be “taking time for self” yet most people rarely make this a priority. It is important to understand “rest” promotes healthy feelings such as being more productive, less anxious and much happier. “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.” (Proverbs 17:22)

Respite Care provides caregivers with a much needed “rest” while promoting peace of mind in knowing loved ones receive care in a safe, nurturing environment. The BLC Respite Care Program allows caretakers to enjoy time away, without the guilt in doing so. It is crucial to remember that caretakers aren’t able to do everything all the time and continue to do things well, unless they have adequate rest of mind, body and soul. “…Be still and know that I am God…” (Psalms 46:10)

Respite Care is offered at both campuses: The Seasons @ Alexandria and The Village @ Erlanger. We provide you, the caretaker with a period of rest to spend in whatever way is needed to take care of YOU!

Respite Care also promotes the following benefit for loved ones:

  • Interaction with others.
  • Safe, supportive, nurturing environment.
  • Activities designed to match personal abilities and needs.

Learn more about this topic and others at the upcoming “Senior Perspectives Workshop” on October 9th at 1:00 p.m. which will focus on the “Best Friend’s Approach To Alzheimer’s & Dementia Care.” The locations for this event are: The Seasons @ Alexandria Grand Dining Room and The Village @ Erlanger, Long House Grand Dining Room. A light lunch will be served.
